‘WITHOUT CONFRONTING OUR HISTORICAL TRUTH, THERE CAN BE NO NOBLE FUTURE’

Everything that happens on the right in this nation today . . . policies that are endorsed, candidates who are supported, etc., is designed to solidify white, male protestant power. It’s all about race and gender . . . keeping white male boots on the necks of minorities and women.

Anti-immigration fervor, police killings, voter suppression, gerrymandering, anti-LGBTQ laws, gun ownership, bigoted oppressive state laws, etc., are all intentional and in service of the above.

Our genesis and history is an abysmal timeline of bigotry, murder and the oppression of non-white persons. Native Americans land stolen, murdered and forced into poverty on reservations, intentional introduction of disease, the abject horror that was slavery, misogyny, the No-Name Party, eugenics, anti-Chinese, Jewish, Russian, Irish Catholic, Latino immigration laws and the Japanese internment camps. The above define our story.

Jim Crow and lynchings are recent by historical standards and institutional racism still exists today in housing, employment, education, access to capital, etc. Confederate generals and politicians have been replaced with Trump, Jordan, Cruz, Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Green and a conservative Supreme Court.

White supremacy and the threat of violence is growing as a movement; it is not receding from our culture. It is who we are and until history as it really happened is taught in schools, until all statues are torn down, until we collectively understand that human rights are not negotiable; we will live on as a shameful and a disgraced nation.
